It is located on the north western shores of Lake Bolsena and its beaches are between those of Valentano and Grotte di Castro. The origins date back to medieval times when Pergola area was built a castle (of which remain today only a round tower, the arch at the entrance and part of the walls) and then released by Matilde di Canossa to the Papacy.
The most important monument is the Palazzo Farnese, sixteenth-century building that dominates the entire town, designed by Antonio da Sangallo the Younger as a summer residence of Pope Paul III Farnese. Noteworthy is also the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena, and the church of San Magno on the shores of the lake.
There are two interesting museums too: the Museum of Sacred Art in the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena and the one of the Civic Renaissance Costumes housed in the Palazzo Farnese. In terms of food and wine are a must to mention the wine DOC Aleatico Gradoli, Aleatico Gradoli Fortified and Aleatico Gradoli Fortified Reserve.
